Emma Pillsbury has been absent since Glee’s Rocky Horror tribute, but from what we saw of her in that ep, she’s definitely a stronger, more confident Emma than we’ve seen up until now. (And man, she has pipes!) The lovely Jayma Mays gave us a little inside scoop on what she believes is right around the corner for McKinley’s guidance counselor.
Wetpaint: Where do you think you can take Emma next? We’ve seen her making progress with some of her OCD issues and seeming to be happy in her new relationship. Where else is she going to go?
Jayma Mays: “I definitely think they're kind of pushing Emma towards a wonderful arc for her. They're kind of pushing her towards getting a little bit more ‘well,’ if you wanna call it that or say it that way. Even though I hate saying that she was sick. She wasn't sick before. But I think she's becoming a bit freer, a little bit more fancy-free — I think that's the word! And I think they're kind of pushing her in that direction a little more, which is nice. It's giving her somewhere to go.”
Wetpaint: Will we see Emma’s romance with John Stamos’ Carl deepening, or maybe get into a little bit of a danger zone if her issues bubble up?
Jayma Mays: “Yeah, definitely. But I think it's a danger zone in a good way. I think he's pushing it on her in a fun way, in a healthy way. He's helping her kind of break free a little bit, which is exactly what she needs. And you know, it's possible that she needs this relationship for her relationship with Will to work one day. That's what I think.”
Wetpaint: How much more singing do you want to do? Because you finally had such a great number in the Rocky Horror episode — you killed!
Jayma Mays: “Thank you. I would like to do some more — you know, it's not something that I do every day, so I get anxiety when I think about having to do it. But I'm finding it more and more fun and I love the challenge of it. So I would — any time they want to throw a number my way I'd be happy to do it.”
