Glee Casting Scoop!

Glee OK, Gleeks, put on your thinking caps (I believe Brittany literally owns a tin-foil one?) and try to solve the riddle behind this new casting call. The Fox hit is looking to guest-cast in one episode a handsome and successful 30-year-old named Stephen, with two important caveats: The guy needs to be at least six feet tall, and the role comes with zero dialogue. That said, this Stephen is said to figure into “an important moment in the script”…? Ready, set, speculate!

Damian McGinty talks sectionals, Finn/Rory 'bromance'

It seems like Damian McGinty just started his stint on Glee, but truth is, he’s actually nearing the end of his seven episode run on the high school dramedy. When EW chatted with the Glee Project winner last week, he was wrapping up work on Glee‘s Christmas episode (more about that in Spoiler Room) and gearing up to film the last of the seven episodes he was awarded after winning the Oxygen reality show. (Fellow winner Samuel Larsen has yet to debut.)

“I guess Christmas is my 6 and then another is 7, but as soon as I get the episode for the one after Christmas, I will know if they’re going to try and keep me on or not,” says McGinty. “My fingers are crossed because that’s what I’ve been working toward. But I’m just going to take it episode by episode. I’m delighted to do that — I’m having the time of my life and working hard.”

Glee Idina Menzel Lea Michele Season Three - H
The actress tells THR about first receiving the script for the Fox show, "I was having a baby, I was really fat and I get a script for 'Glee'."

TORONTO - Stage and screen star Idina Menzel has originated the role of the green-skinned Elphaba in Wicked and Maureen in Rent.

And the Broadway belter has a recurring guest star role as Rachel's biological mother on Fox’s Glee.

But nothing compares to when Menzel and husband and Private Practice star Taye Diggs had a baby son, Walker Diggs.

“To me, it was a gift to have this intense love for someone that I’d never felt before, for a child, that makes you feel better than anything else you’ve done,” Menzel said backstage after performing over two nights for an upcoming PBS TV special recorded in Toronto at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Koerner Hall.

She explained parenthood has changed her from a talented, yet self-absorbed artist bedeviled by doubts to enjoying first-time fulfillment.

“Ever since I had my son, I have more of a cup half-full perspective on life that he (Walker) has given me,” Menzel said with a broad smile.

“If I screwed up a high note, I go easier on myself,” she added, knowing as a mother she has a baby boy back home who loves her.

InDepth InterView Exclusive: Cheyenne Jackson Talks Glee!

PC: GLEE is one of the most popular topics on BroadwayWorld, so I have to know what it was like to work on the show? How did you find out you were going to be involved? As a musical theatre actor appearing on that show, did you feel you made it, in a way?

CJ: Well, it wasn’t necessarily a moment of “I made it!”, but the enormity of that show and just where it is in the zeitgeist is definitely, definitely not lost on me. I was very excited. I was supposed to do a guest spot on the first season, but I got the flu and I couldn’t do it. So, Ryan [Murphy] said they really wanted to do something for me, and, so, they wrote this part with me in mind and brought me into the office and told me kind of what the deal was. And, it was amazing.

PC: Was it a thrill to do?

CJ: Oh, yeah - there is a lot going on; a lot of energy. Those kids are… it’s just pretty exciting to be on it. And, I love Matt Morrison and we’ve been friends for years. I like that a lot of my first stuff was with Gwyneth Paltrow, too. She was so incredible.

PC: Did you ever get to shoot any scenes with Idina Menzel at any point that perhaps we didn‘t get to see?

CJ: No, I wasn’t actually in any episodes with her - my character replaced her temporarily as the coach of Vocal Adrenaline. So, yeah, unfortunately, I never got to share any scenes with her. But, I dig her and I think she’s a doll.

PC: What was it like working with Charice on the show? I’m not sure if you have heard the news about her estranged father and his murder recently.

CJ: Yeah, I did her about that. It’s absolutely awful - and so heartbreaking.

PC: She's so talented.

CJ: She is. And, yes, I did work with Charice in a couple of episodes. She is just such a sweetheart - so shy and humble. Given her powerhouse vocals, it’s sort of strange to see.

PC: What about working with Jonathan Groff? Another great young star on the rise.

CJ: Oh, Jonathan is just - as you know - as lovely as can be. I have loved him for years.
