Just how awesome is Glee's Chris Colfer?
So freakin' awesome that he inspired Glee executive producer Ryan Murphy to create The Glee Project, which ends its second season tonight and features an appearance by the show's inspiration himself! [how DARE you blame him for this, e!online] We chatted with Colfer about mentoring the final three contestants, Aylin Bayramoglu, Ali Stroker and Blake Jenner [is he part of the kardashian hoard??] , and what fans can expect from the finale.
Plus, Colfer talks about the new season of Glee, which he is loving so far, filming in New York vs. Los Angeles, and his reaction when he found out Sarah Jessica Parker, who he has yet to work with, was playing his mentor (Hint: it had nothing to do with Sex and the City)...
How do you feel being chosen as a mentor and for such an important episode?
"I was so honored and um, what's another word for honored? [Laughs.] I think I was honored and surprised that they chose me to do the finale. It's so funny because all the contestants are either my age or older than me, so I really told myself when I go in there I'm not going to try to give them any advice because I'm sure the last thing they want to hear is advice from someone younger or their age. I'm just going to go in and tell them to do their own thing and figure it out along their way in their own careers. And I tell you, I got there and I wouldn't shut up! [Laughs.] I did the absolute opposite of what I told myself I was going to do."
Was mentoring harder or easier than you thought it would be?
"I don't know if I really consider it mentoring. I kind of feel like they had to listen to me! [Laughs.] Because there were like cameras and it was my coverage of the mentor session. It was different. It was different."

Zach Woodlee On 'The Glee Project' Contenders, Ryan Murphy And 'Glee' Season 4's 'New Magic'!

As any fan of "The Glee Project" knows, Zach Woodlee might be the smiliest person on TV. But it's not like the "Glee" choreographer can help it. "I have so many photos of me where I'm laughing like a crazy person," Woodlee told HuffPost TV. "I don't know what it is, but I just go with it."
For years Woodlee has been churning out high-energy dance numbers for Fox's hit comedy "Glee," but lately he's been bringing his enthusiasm to the set of Oxygen's "The Glee Project." The search for the next "Glee" star hasn't been easy, especially when the remaining five -- Aylin, Michael, Lily, Ali and Blake -- all "deserve to be on the show," according to Woodlee.
HuffPost TV caught up with Woodlee -- after his morning "Glee" rehearsal -- to talk about the remaining "Glee Project" contenders, his infamous "Bruise Wall," what it's like to work with Ryan Murphy and why "Glee" Season 4 feels "like the beginning again."
How does it feel being the most smiley person on TV?
[Laughs.] Oh God. I can't even tell you the anxiety I get from being around those cameras!
Is that why you laugh so much? You're just really nervous?
In general, I tend to laugh too much. I always try to tell myself not to, but I think that's just part of getting through the job. It's not rocket science. I want to have a good time!
Have you seen the gifs of your laugh that fans have made?
Someone sent me two of them, and it was sort of mortifying. But it's funny because I've been doing this for years. I've spent every single Christmas since I was tiny -- I literally have a photo with Santa where I'm doing it -- and practically every birthday just laughing like a crazy person. I don't know what it is, but I just go with it.
Heading into Tuesday night's episode, there are only five contenders left: Blake, Aylin, Aly, Lily and Michael. What do you think each hopeful can offer "Glee?"
As we're going through the process, for Robert [Ulrich], Nikki [Anders] and I, nurturing them has always been the goal. They all deserve to be on the scripted show, and they all could be on the show. It's bittersweet looking back at the whole competition, but these five all have the drive. They all want it, and they all have the talent. It's going to be about seeing who can put it over the edge.
Blake: I think Blake is definitely a frontrunner. He's sort of the sleep cell, who gets better and better. He's fascinating to watch. He doesn't like to cater to anything that he considers weak about himself. He puts on a game face, and you would never know about his anxiety. He's just like all of us; we don't really know what we're doing, but let's just keep going and see what happens.
Ali: To me, Ali is a professional. She gets it before you even have to make a correction. She's extremely aware. I think that's partly the reason she got so far. She knows how to make everything work in her favor.
Lily: What Lily has going for her is her absolute, unabashed bold self, and that will take you pretty far. Ryan [Murphy] loves a diva! He loves a strong opinion, and that's what Lily has, and I think that has not only helped her in this competition, but it's also helped her in her life. Lily's story is, "Look at me. I'm beautiful, and I'm a big girl who can do it all." She has a lot of self-confidence.
Michael: Michael is so interesting! Did they even say on the show that his mother sent him a care package with calculus books? He loves math! It's really charming. I don't think they've shown enough of his quirks. Ryan at one point, compared Michael and Blake, and it's funny because I tried early on to pair those guys up and see who was stronger than the other. In the "Dance-Ability" episode, I intentionally put those two next to each other. I thought that one of them would shine and one of them would fail, but then they turned out to be the best two people there! I think Michael is the underdog. He's one of the least experienced, but his ability to pick things up quickly is what got him this far. Every week, he gets better and better.
Aylin: Sometimes television eats the life out of a live performance, but Aylin has a way to pierce through you. She's so accessible. On the show, they really haven't painted her as accessible as she really is. When she sings, she will get into your soul, and it's amazing. When you're around her, there's a spark. She was my pick during callbacks. I knew that she was a star. There's something about her that makes you go, "Oh my gosh. You're incredible!" You just gravitate toward her.
I know that you have a "Bruise Wall" for your "Glee" actors. Did you have one for "The Glee Project" contenders?
No, there wasn't a wall, but there were definitely injuries! I don't think that viewers ever saw Shanna's kneecap injury. It wasn't during dance rehearsals -- thank God -- but she fell up the stairs and shattered her kneecap. The next time I saw her, she was like, "Feel my knee," and you could literally push parts of her kneecap around. She was wearing that knee brace and doing everything with a broken kneecap!
What's it like working with Ryan Murphy?
[Laughs.] Working with Ryan ... in the weirdest way, it's inspiring. From the pilot, when I went into the interview, I knew that what you see is what you get with Ryan. We both have strong opinions. Sometimes people come into contact with him and they feel more intimidated than they should, and Ryan doesn't really respect that. He loves a strong opinion. I don't feel bad if I tell him I disagree with him, and we'll work through it.
I think you see that play out on "The Glee Project."
And they haven't even shown everything! We bicker.
Was there one contestant that was sent home that you thought went home too early?
The top six or seven -- I love them all. Nellie and Shanna were very difficult for me to say goodbye to. With Nellie, we were always trying to pull her out of her shell. She was just really uncomfortable, and at a certain point, it seemed unfair to some of the other contenders. It's not that we were holding her hand throughout the process -- and in a way, we were -- but we needed her to take that final step and it just never happened. I love Nellie. Her voice is insane, and I think that her naivety and the way that she was in front of a camera read as this innocent youth. She was like a real-life Rachel Berry.
I know that you're in the middle of shooting "Glee" Season 4.
It's different now. There's new storylines. I still see them, and we still have big group numbers, but as far as what that initial group was, that will never happen again. That's a bit of a legacy. I think what stung was in the finale, when the original five explained "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" to some of the new members of New Directions. That was my final rehearsal of Season 3, and for us, it was strange because that was my very first rehearsal for the pilot. Kevin [McHale] was like, "Oh my gosh. This is when we met." That was the first day that I met Kevin, Amber [Riley], Lea [Michele], Jenna [Ushkowitz] and Chris [Colfer]. We all just sat there and started crying!
We know that there's going to be another Britney Spears tribute this season. What can we expect?
There's a lot in this Britney episode. It opens up with a huge number. That's actually what I'm going to rehearse now! I'm very excited about it. It's kind of mixing things that we're never done before.
Are you excited to work with the new members of New Directions?
Just wait! One of the new characters came in, and we did a dance evaluation. This person was like, "I can tumble," and started to do flips for me. And one was like, "Oh, I can tap dance!" My jaw dropped. I was like, "Oh my god. I have someone on New Directions who can really dance, besides Heather [Morris] and Harry [Shum Jr.]. This is amazing!" We've been shooting now for a couple of weeks and seeing the new group form has a whiff of the beginning again. There's a new magic. It feels fresh again. Seeing all of these new faces and incorporating the ones that we already have, it's a new fiber in the show. And then we have Lea and Chris' storylines. I'm really excited!
Now that Rachel is in New York, will we see you pop up in "Glee" as a NYADA choreographer?
I seriously doubt that I would be on the scripted show. [Laughs.] I love being behind-the-camera. I would be like, "You guys, I don't know what's happening. I can't be here!" Rachel definitely has some dance classes, and her teacher is stellar. She's got a good teacher!
I hear that you're finally getting a Twitter account this week. Now that Ryan Murphy is on Twitter, did you feel the need to get one too?
Oh god. Lady Murphy on Twitter? Maybe the Mayans were right and the world really is going to end soon! Once I can verify my account, I will have a Twitter.

'The Glee Project' Enlists Dianna Agron, Grant Gustin as Mentors (Exclusive)!

Glee’s Dianna Agron and Grant Gustin are heading to Oxygen.
The “Glee” duo will make their debut with themed episodes “Actability” and “Theatricality.”
The duo have been tapped the final two mentors onThe Glee Project’s second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Agron, who plays the Yale-bound Quinn, will make her debut on the Oxygen reality competition on the Aug. 7 episode, which will feature a new theme: “Actability.”
For his part, Gustin — a recurring player as Dalton Academy Warbler Sebastian — will also make his debut on the Oxygen series, whose winner receives a seven-episode arc on Glee, in the July 17 “Theatricality” hour.
Agron and Gustin join fellow first-time mentors including Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera and Jane Lynch, who oversees Tuesday’s “Fearlessness” episode.
Upcoming mentors include Amber Riley (“Tenacity”), Darren Criss (“Romanticality”) and Chris Colfer, who will oversee the “Glee-ality” Season 2 finale on Aug. 14.

Kevin McHale on His 'Glee Project' Return: 'I'm Going to Go All Simon Cowell'!

Glee's Kevin McHale makes his return to Oxygen's The Glee Project on Tuesday and wanted to bring traces of another Fox personality with him during his stint as a mentor: The X Factor's sharp-tounged judge Simon Cowell.
McHale, whose 1:1 winner Lindsay Pearce went on to win a two-episode arc on the Fox series last season, tells The Hollywood Reporter that his plan was to be more critical this season when he checked in to offer his Glee wisdom about "Adaptability" to the remaining Oxygen contenders vying for a seven-episode arc.
"Last season I tried to be a little more honest with [the contestants] because it was getting down to the finals and I wanted to really push them, but this time I told [Glee co-creator and Glee Project EP] Ryan Murphy, 'Look, I’m going to go all Simon Cowell on them," McHale tells THR.
However, not all went according to the actor behind Artie Abrams' plan when the new theme -- "Adaptability" -- threw the remaining 10 Glee Project kids a real curveball with their homework assignment. As per Glee Project rules, the kids receive their weekly song -- this time it's Alanis Morrissette's "You Oughta Know" -- and divide the lyrics up with each taking a particular line or verse to be judged by the weekly mentor.
"The curveball is they now have to -- without looking back at the lyrics -- sing the entire song to me," McHale previews. "They had to come up one by one and perform the song for us."
Because of the challenging nature of this week's theme, McHale says he quickly abandoned his plan to go all Simon on the group. "I wanted to be like, 'OK, I can be the mean one,' but that didn’t happen because the assignment was just so difficult. The fact that they could actually even get through it was just incredible all on its own without me having to be mean and blunt."
"Adaptability is crucial to working on Glee because everyday is adapting to something," McHale says. "Because we’re doing a different genre of music, doing a different type of scene with a different scene partner, recording and dance rehearsals … no day is like another."
As for who ultimately won the one-on-one time with McHale, the actor notes that he picked the contestant who was the "most well-rounded."
"I chose the one who I saw the most potential in, who really just could cross off the most things on the assignment," he says of the field he described as being "wide open." "I was astonished because I just kept imagining myself in their shoes and falling apart."

This week, Oxygen’s The Glee Project welcomes Kevin McHale, who of course plays Artie on Glee, to mentor the remaining contestants. Their lesson this week? “Adaptability,” which required the contestants to think on their feet. EW spoke to McHale about tonight’s episode — and didn’t hesitate to grill him for scoop on season 4 and even his thoughts on a Quinn/Artie romance.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Your theme is adaptability. What song did they have to do?
KEVIN MCHALE: They had to do Alanis Morissette… What Alanis Morissette song was it? The one about [oral sex] in a theater.

“You Oughta Know” — that’s what I thought! My intention was to be as cruel as possible to them.
That doesn’t really sound like you.
Well, when it comes to those things like music I can be very blunt. I was like, “I’m gonna go all Simon on this and they’re gonna have to deal with it.” But when I got there and they told me what the assignment was and what they had to do, I felt so bad because if I was in their shoes I’d be crying. Like I wouldn’t know what to do.
So what does “adaptability” mean in terms of this show?
The whole show is about learning a whole new different genre of music that you’re gonna have to sing or dance to, or do a comedic scene next to a crazy dramatic scene. The show makes you do a lot. It takes a lot. Your learning curve has to be exceptional. So they were told that they were going to learn the song and there wouldn’t be any choreography. So they performed all that for me, but the actual assignment is that you each have to sing the full song to me and you can’t look at the lyrics. It’s not like that song is easy. It’s a lot of fast singing. It was crazy.
I’m impressed with this crop of kids though.
Yeah, they’re talented. They’re fighters. They’re not just there to be on TV. They really love it. The 10 I met were great.
Ali, one of the contestants, is in a wheelchair and I’m sure Artie means a lot to her. Did you have any interaction with her?
There wasn’t really an opportunity for that. But she was just so brilliant. Her talent alone was just remarkable regardless if she’s in a wheelchair or not. She was just phenomenal.
How does it feel going into season 4 knowing that some of your castmates have graduated?
Um, I don’t know. We still don’t know exactly how everybody will work and the format of everything. I don’t think anybody’s not gonna be on it in some capacity. We’ll see what happens. It’s exciting and these are my best friends — we’re a family now. I prefer them there, but the show’s gotta go where the show’s gotta go. If I don’t see them everyday, I still talk to them outside of it.
Were you disappointed there wasn’t a Quinn/Artie romance? I thought that’s where it was going.
So did I. I was hoping for it. Before the third season, I kept doing it as a joke. I was like, “Quinn and Artie — let’s make that happen.” I never get scenes with Dianna and I was really excited.

I know. Damn you and your dreadlocks.
How did you feel about The Glee Project contestants working into the show this year? Was it a success?
I think it was. It was natural to have new people on it anyways, and I guess that’s the whole point of it because people are going to graduate and people are going to move on. I got really close with Damian because Sam came on later. It was just great. They were both super nice and worked hard.
Do you know anything about Artie next year? Is he gonna rule the school?
Well, if I wrote it, yes. I would be in every scene and sing every song. No, I don’t really know yet. Because the format is going to be a little different obviously. It’s like doing a new show, but you have to keep what made the show what it is so it’s definitely a balancing act.

Kevin McHale Returning as 'Glee Project' Mentor! (Exclusive)

Glee's Kevin McHale is returning to Oxygen's The Glee Project.
The actor behind Artie Abrams has been tapped as the next mentor on Oxygen's reality-competition series and will oversee a new theme for the second-year show: "Adaptability."
McHale will bring his three seasons' worth of experience to the fifth episode of the season, scheduled for July 3. It will mark his second turn as a mentor following his turn last year during the show's "Generosity" hour that saw co-runner-up Lindsay Pearce earn one-on-one time with him.
Upcoming mentors include Jane Lynch, making her Glee Project debut July 10 for another new theme, "Fearlessness"; Amber Riley stepping in for "Tenacity," which was mentored by Max Adler last year; Darren Criss, making his third appearance July 31 for another new theme, "Romanticality"; and Chris Colfer debuting in the Aug. 14 hour for "Glee-ality."
McHale joins season-two mentors including Lea Michele, Samuel Larsen, Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera, who will oversee Tuesday's episode.
The Glee Project airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Oxygen.
