NOT SPOILERISH
Question: Now that Glee has gone full-on musical, I started thinking that it was too bad that Will doesn't have a musical peer on that show. I like Emma, but after watching his two duets with April, it dawned on me that he needs a love interest to match him vocally. If that were to happen, I think this show would really start to cook. How do you feel about this?—Aaron
Matt Roush: Music to my (and possibly Matthew Morrison’s) ears. I’d like to see the show try to compensate for the horribleness of the Terri character (and the insipidness of Emma) by introducing an adult female character who isn’t a she-bitch or a simp and who has major pipes. Hooking up said character with Will would only make sense. Still not sure if we’re meant to see Emma as his soul mate, but these are early days for the show still, and pairing Morrison with another Broadway baby would be a thrill.
Question: I have been reading your columns for years and always respect your opinion on TV. I have to say, this year has truly been tough Tuesdays at 10/9c. With FX and TNT thrown in the mix, forget about it! I just wanted to say how much I agree about this Idol run-over business and Glee suffering the consequences. I have weekly recordings on two separate DVRs to cover V, Parenthood, Justified and The Good Wife. Before that, it was Southland and I think White Collar. I can't carry over recordings 5 minutes because it means watching something online. Watching TV shouldn't be this difficult. (LOL) Just wanted to share my thoughts.—Nicole
Matt Roush: It really is no laughing matter. When I addressed this issue in last week’s Ask Matt column, I should have made it clearer that the unusually strong bounty of must-see shows in Tuesday’s 10/9c hour makes it that much more unacceptable for Fox to continue to allow Idol and thus Glee to run late without compensating in the DVR listings. Being live is no excuse for not being professional. (Lost already bleeds over into the 10/9c hour, but we know that in advance.) At least with Justified there’s a later replay that can be recorded outside the 10/9c hour, but still, it’s a mess.
