While we're in the midst of the "Twilight: Eclipse" promotion frenzy, it may seem impossible for anything to beat out the unstoppable teen vampire phenomenon.
Proving once again that the underdogs can be cool, too, "Glee" has actually managed to beat out "Twilight"... at least when it comes to soundtrack sales.
The "Glee" Season 1 finale soundtrack, "Journey to Regionals," sold 3,000 more copies than the new "Twilight" movie soundtrack. With 158,000 copies sold, "Glee" took the number one spot on the charts, according to HitsDailyDouble. Congratulations, Gleeks! There are only 155,000 Twi-Hards as dedicated as you are.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about this is that the "Glee" soundtrack wasn't even a full-length album... it was just an EP, with six songs. With four Journey songs in the mix, Columbia Records is enjoying a nice payday - they distribute the "Glee" soundtracks and Journey records for them, as well.
Of course, in today's economy, the much lower price tag on the "Glee" album may have encouraged more buyers. Amazon has "Journey to Regionals" available for $6.98, while the "Twilight: Eclipse" soundtrack is marked down from $18.98 to $9.99.
Right now, all five "Glee" albums are on the charts, representing 17% of all record sales. Whoa. "Glee" should do a cover of Rob Pattinson's song, "Never Think," from the first "Twilight" soundtrack. We can't even imagine what could happen should the power of Gleeks and Twi-hards combine.
