Glee star Matthew Morrison has revealed he is in discussions with Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage about starring in a production at the venue.

The actor, who plays Will Schuester in the US musical drama series, said he had met with both Grandage and Donmar associate director Rob Ashford about appearing at the theatre in the near future.
Morrison made a name for himself in musical theatre before landing the role in Glee, shown in the UK on E4. He said he missed being on stage “more than anything” while making the television series, and that Grandage had asked him to consider what projects he would be interested in doing with the theatre.
Although he is due to appear in a further two series of the TV show, which he said left him little time to commit to a big musical theatre production, Morrison said he could work with the Donmar because its runs tend to be shorter than other theatre commitments.
“I met with Michael Grandage and Rob Ashford and they gave me a tour of the Donmar. It’s such an amazing space. That [appearing there] is something I might be able to do because the runs are so short. They were just saying, ‘Come to us with a project you would want to do’. And so I have some ideas for stuff I have been thinking about,” he said.
Morrison added that he would be particularly keen to appear in a new work, and said this could be a play or a musical. He added that the venue had a great track record and said the intimacy of the space was good for an actor. “It really keeps you honest as an actor to perform in such a small space as that,” he said.
The performer, whose Broadway credits include Hairspray and South Pacific, revealed he was in the UK working on a new album, due to be released at the end of the year.
He said it would be an “eclectic” mix of songs, performed by a big orchestra, and added Glee had made it possible to release a solo album.
“It’s been on my radar but Glee has afforded me the opportunity to do it,” he said.
