CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Fox's smash hit "Glee" won't return to the airwaves until fall, but you can lessen your withdrawal this week with the Charleston Town Center Mall's "It's a 'Glee'-ful Summer" in Center Court and Macy's Court.
The events, co-sponsored by Electric 102.7 and the Gazette's teen section, FlipSide, include a meet-and-greet with "Glee" actor Harry Shum Jr., a casting call for a new MTV reality show, performances by local singers and dancers, open mic nights, a "Glee" look-alike contest, fashion show and more.
Here is the schedule:
Saturday through July 17: At the Casting Corner in Center Court, you can check the audition board for local theater audition dates and Broadway performances. Also, kick back and enjoy books, magazines, puzzles -- after you register to win "Glee" prizes, of course.
Saturday: Local groups take over Macy's Court at noon for live performances, including the St. Albans Studio of Dance high school dance team, which has been invited to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.
Tuesday: A casting crew for a new MTV show, "Party Down South," (from the company behind "Jersey Shore"), sets up shop in Macy's Court from 5 to 9 p.m. They're looking for a dozen reality show hopefuls age 21 and up who are fun, attractive, crazy Southerners.
Those who attend the call must complete an application and bring a photo ID. They will be interviewed briefly on camera by a casting directory. They're encouraged to show their Southern style during the audition.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Electric 102.7 hosts an open mic night for teens from 6 to 8 p.m. in Center Court.
July 15: Electric 102.7 DJ, T.J. King broadcasts live from The Casting Corner from 7 to 9 p.m. There's also a "Glee" cast look-alike contest at 7:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.
July 17: Things wrap up with an afternoon of "Glee" fun in Center Court, beginning at noon with song and dance performances (featuring musical direction by Mark Scarpelli and choreography by Amanda Bridgette) by "Charleston's Teen Idol" semi-finalists and the Charleston Town Center Mall teen and junior boards. That's followed by a teen fashion show previewing back-to-school fashions. The afternoon concludes with a free meet-and-greet with Harry Shum Jr. -- aka "Glee's" crazy awesome dancer Mike Chang.
