Mike O'Malley is just one of many Emmy nominations "Glee" earned this year -- and he is ever humble about what great material he has to work with as Burt Hummel.
"I've had nothing to do with the character other than showing up and saying those beautiful words," says O'Malley. "Growing up in a time like now, it's easier for a father to be accepting, just because of how the culture as a whole has been accepting of people who are different. When I say 'different,' I mean things who are not what they necessarily know as normal."
"One of the reasons it's easier to portray a character who is so kind and loving towards his son," he continues "Part of that is because we live in a time when that's possible ... It's one of the reasons I like participating in drama and storytelling, is to help illuminate a part of humanity that maybe will help people deal with their pain."
As for the Emmy nomination, O'Malley says, "It's great to be working, even better to be working and have people acknowledging your work."
And his big plans for the Emmys are "getting dressed up again."
"I mean three days in a row, that might be a record," O'Malley laughs. "I haven't done that since high shcool, when I went to an all-boys catholic school. I'm wearing a suit three days in a row, I might break out in a sweat."
