Chris Colfer: Glee fans confuse me with Kurt

Chris Colfer says people want to “hold and comfort” him wherever he goes because they confuse him with his Glee character.

The American star plays gay student Kurt Hummel in US show Glee, about a group of high school misfits in a singing club. The 20-year-old is amazed by how popular the programme has become, explaining he is recognised wherever he goes. Chris always makes time for his fans, but admits he finds it strange that so many of them can’t differentiate between him and Kurt.

“People want to hold and comfort me because I'm always crying in the show. 'It's OK, Kurt,' they say, 'We love you'. I have to tell them, 'I'm fine, but thank you, anyway. I'm loving your sympathy!'" he laughed.

Matthew Morrison plays teacher Will Schuester in Glee, and is also getting used to being approached by fans. The actor has taken to wearing a disguise when he goes out so he can lead a more normal life, explaining he always remembers to don glasses before leaving the house.

“My anonymity has gone. I can't walk five feet without being stopped for a picture. But you have to embrace it,” he told British newspaper The Independent. “You work this hard and hope for something like this to come along, so you can't push it away when it happens. But I am buying a lot more hats now! I'm also walking around a lot in clear glasses – sunglasses make it look like you're trying too hard.”
