Those "Gleeks" are at it again! After thrilling fans with special episodes devoted to Madonna and Britney Spears, now the hit musical comedy is tackling "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" just in time for Halloween.
The campy "Rocky Horror" film, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, tells the story of young couple Brad and Janet, whose car breaks down on a stormy night outside the castle of mad scientist Dr. Frank N. Furter. Once inside, Furter's oddball singing servants Riff Raff and Magenta usher the pair into a grand ballroom, where attendees of the Annual Transylvanian Convention join in on the movie's signature song: "Time Warp."
"Glee's" homage, which airs next Tuesday, finds Cory Monteith's Finn and Lea Michele's Rachel playing the roles of Brad and Janet (made famous onscreen by Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon). As Michele told UsMagazine.com, shooting the episode was quite a production, even by "Glee" standards.
"I've seen the movie, I saw the show on Broadway, and let me tell you... I slept for 14 hours [after shooting] because that was a big episode to put together," Michele said. "The transformations, everybody playing a different character from the movie, it's extraordinary. I was showing my family pictures and my family had no idea which of our cast member they were. It's so out of this world."
(For the record, if you're as confused as Michele's parents: Chris Colfer's Kurt plays Riff Raff; Dianna Agron's Quinn and Naya Rivera's Santana are both Magenta; Kevin McHale's Artie is the narrator; Amber Riley's Mercedes plays Dr. Frank N. Furter; Jenna Ushkowitz's Tina and Heather Morris's Brittany are both Columbia; Harry Shum Jr.'s Mike plays Eddie; and "Glee" newcomer Chord Overstreet's Sam plays Rocky Horror.)
