Arthur Smith's Best of 2010

End of the year, time for a list . . .
not necessarily the BEST TV of 2010, but my favorites.

Glee is a glorious mess, full of awkward tonal shifts, inconsistent characterizations, contrived plotting, and an utter lack of subtlety. But when it works—when the idiosyncratic nuttiness comes together in one of those roof-raising performances—a strange alchemy occurs, and Glee delivers an emotional and aesthetic punch that is truly transcendent and looks and feels like nothing else on television. Even when Glee is misfiring (an all too regular occurrence), there are pretty people singing and dancing to watch, and Jane Lynch’s peerless put-downs to get you through. Following Glee is like panning for gold; there’s a lot of dross to sift through, and it all can start to feel like a colossal waste of time, but when it delivers on its sparkly promise there’s no other thrill quite like it.

What do you think? Do you agree with him?
