Who is Ashley Fink’s (Lauren Zizes) crazy, lifelong celebrity obsession? The Glee star tells all in an exclusive Wetpaint Q&A. Plus, the Big Secret about Lea Michele (Rachel), and the new album the cast members just can’t stop playing..
Wetpaint: Who's your celebrity crush?
Ashley Fink: My celebrity crush has always been Seth Green. I know that’s sort of an atypical choice, but for some reason I have been in love with that little ginger since I was nine. I’m telling you! He’s five-foot-three, I know his full name is Seth Benjamin Geshell-Green, I know his birthday — I mean it’s creepy! [Laughs] I made a book of magazine clippings. I watched the Can’t Hardly Wait movie like 117 times!
Wetpaint: If you love Seth so much, what’s your favorite Robot Chicken sketch?
Ashley: I have a bunch, but my favorite is the little boy walking along with the Grim Reaper right behind him. When he sneezes, someone says, “God bless you” so the Grim Reaper’s like, “Damn it!” and walks away. I like the Star Wars ones and I like them all, but for some reason it’s those three second ones that make me laugh the most.
Wetpaint: What's your favorite Glee performance thus far, that you've participated in or seen?
Ashley: That’s so hard. I loved it when Lea and Chris did “Defying Gravity.” I was like wow. And I love “I Wanna Hold Your Hand.” I love the big group numbers, though — all the stuff at set shows where everyone competes and where everyone comes together. To be specific, the “Dog Days” and the “Valeries.” I mean, those are so fun.
Wetpaint: Have you been a Gleek since day one?
Ashley: Yes I have. I’ve watched every episode and I’ve loved every episode. The first episode I shot was Episode 8, and it was actually right as the pilot was airing, so it’s been crazy how far we’ve come. I mean, we’re only halfway through Season 2. It’s great! I’ve been a Gleek since day one.
Wetpaint: What’s your favorite part of being on the show?
Ashley: It’s probably how much fun we have making it. It should be illegal. I go to work and yet I get to hang out and be silly with my best friends all day long. It’s like a blessing. The singing and dancing and everything is so much fun, and on top of it being able to share it. There’s a lot of downtime and we just have a blast. It feels like high school. I feel like I’m on recess.
Wetpaint: Who would you like Lauren Zizes to hook up with, besides Puck?
Ashley: Hmmm… I don’t know… Maybe she can get in on some of the Santana-Brittany lovin’.
Wetpaint: Who's your dream guest star?
Ashley: There’s so many amazing people, but I would say that one of my dream guest stars would definitely be Elton John. I adore him. Him being on Glee would just be like the ultimate be-all, end-all. Or David Bowie. David Bowie on Glee — that would be amazing! And Adele. Oh my God, we’re all so obsessed with her new album. Adele needs to come and be like a rival from a different show choir.
Wetpaint: How has your life changed since your guest spot on Glee grew into a more significant role?
Ashley: Well, there’s less sleep. Yeah, it’s a little different. I’m a lot busier. And I have little girls coming up to me on the street all the time and it’s such an incredible feeling, knowing that you’re doing something every day and people around the world are walking a little bit taller because of it. I feel very honored. It’s been different — I put on makeup every time I leave the house! But I will never stop wearing pajamas in public. I have no shame.
Wetpaint: You've mostly done television — what about film?
Ashley: I’ve been in a couple of independent films. It’s a completely different experience. Movies are like camp; you go for like a month or two, you meet new people, and then you’re done. With television it feels like you’re in boarding school. You’re always there. But movies can be fun. I’d love to do a movie. With Seth Green. His wife is gorgeous, he’s got action figures like Toys ‘R’ Us! I follow him on Twitter and I’m like, “Man! Why aren’t you my best friend?”
Wetpaint: Is Lea Michele a diva?
Ashley: No! Its so funny. That’s such a question everyone wants to know. We wouldn’t be photographed hanging out all the time, like at movies and eating sushi together, if we didn’t like her. She’s amazing. She is incredibly professional. She’s like mom — she always knows what’s going on. If you ever have a question, no matter what department, you can ask Lea and she can answer it for you. I mean, it’s brilliant! She’s hysterical, I love her. That’s one thing that people don’t necessarily know about Lea, that she is one of the funniest people alive.
Wetpaint: Now for the lightning round — give one word for each of the following names:
Chris Colfer (Kurt): Adorable.
Lea Michele: Tiny.
Dianna Agron (Quinn): Sweet.
Mark Salling (Puck): [Laughing] Rebel.
Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schue): Gorgeous.
Kevin McHale (Artie): Gangster.
Heather Morris (Brittany): Genuine.
Cory Monteith (Finn): Tall. Or, Canadian.
Naya Rivera (Santana): Gorgeous.
Darren Criss (Blaine): Hmmm…. Hmmm… Smile.
