‘Glee’ fades for Canucks-fan star
Cory Monteith might play all-American boy Finn Hudson in “Glee,” but the Canadian actor is from British Columbia and he believes his beloved Canucks will bring the Stanley Cup back to the Great White North in five.So, Cory, what’s it like being a Canucks fan in Boston this week???
“It’s ahhhh... It’s aaaaahhhh... I just keep my head down and try not to run into any surly Bruins [team stats] fans, especially after we went up two games to none,” the TV QB told the Track.
Well, the 8-1 butt-whipping the B’s gave the Blue & Green should take away some of that surly!
“Yeah, that’s not the way we had planned on the game going,” he laughed.
Monteith, who has hit Rogers Arena in Vancouver with the Green Men, said despite his hockey leanings, he and the rest of the cast, in town for their “GLEE Live!” show at the Garden last night, has received a really warm welcome from the local fans. Yesterday he and co-star Naya Rivera did a special meet-and-greet with fans at the Samsung/AT&T store in Dedham.
“It’s been amazing, really overwhelming,” Rivera said. “The fans are really responsive to what we’re doing and they are so sweet. They bring us presents.”
Rivera, whose character Santana Lopez, struggled this past season with coming out as a lesbian, said she feels honored to have been chosen “to portray that struggle.”
“It’s really important,” she said. “I get letters every day from young girls in high school who are going through the same thing.”
“Glee,” a pop-culture phenomenon struggled to maintain a coherent plot in its sophomore year, but the over-arching theme was acceptance.
“There was a really strong message behind the Lady Gaga episode, of accepting yourself and standing up for who you are,” Monteith said. “I think the show has a responsibility to drive the larger message and that people feel really good about that message.”
Which is all well and good, but what about Rachel, Finn and Quinn?
“I have no idea,” Cory laughed. “We’ll just have to see if Rachel decides to pursue her Broadway dreams and whether Finn goes along for the ride.”
