'Glee' team hires new writing staff

The team behind Glee has hired a new writing staff for the third season.

The first two seasons of the show were written solely by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk, which is extremely unusual for an American series.

The trio had suggested that they were planning to expand their team and Deadline reports that they have now appointed several new people.

Among the people who have signed up is Marti Noxon, who has previously worked on shows including Mad Men, Grey's Anatomy, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Prison Break. She will now become a consulting producer on Glee.

No Ordinary Family and Chuck alum Allison Adler will join the musical drama as a co-executive producer, while Big Love's story editor Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be a co-producer.

Elsewhere, MADtv writer Michael Hitchcock will become a consulting producer. Hitchcock is also an actor and has appeared in shows like United States of Tara and Men of a Certain Age. He also guest starred in the first season of Glee.

The news of the appointments comes shortly after Glee stars Matthew Morrison and Dot Jones confessed that the show's scripts were often written at the last minute.

The writers are expected to start working on the third season of Glee next week, while filming is due to begin in August.
