Naya Rivera Loves ‘Doing All The Jazzy Bits’ On Glee, Is Ready To Take on Adele and Billie Holiday

Last night we fell in love with Glee star Naya Rivera at the spring fling.
Banners, balloons and silver streamers transformed New York’s trendy Gansevoort Park Lounge into a school dance for the Samsung AT&T Spring Fling, and MTV was there to greet Glee’s Rivera, Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale, who are in town for the final American shows of the Glee Live! In Concert Tour, at the Nassau Coliseum and Izod Center, respectively.

The tour, which moves to the U.K. next week for a series of dates in London, Manchester and Dublin, is the second road show for the cast, who visited theaters in the U.S. last summer. This year’s tour is a much larger affair.

“We’re playing arenas now instead of theaters,” Rivera told us. “I guess the easiest way to put it is, when you leave the dressing room and walk up and see the thousands of people and thousands of cameras, that’s the one thing that’s different. Just the amount of people. It’s overwhelming and so much fun.”

Asked if the change was intimidating, Rivera laughed, “No, it actually kind of revs me up, it gives me more adrenaline.”

Read on to find out which artists Rivera would like to cover next season and whether she knows where next season will take her character, Santana.

“Probably Adele. Yeah, I’d probably say Adele,” Rivera, whose sultry singing voice was a perfect fit to cover Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” and “Back to Black” last season, said when asked which singers she was dying to cover. “Maybe some Billie Holiday would be cool. I like that Santana is doing all the jazzy bits and that’s kind of like her niche.”

One of the most interesting storylines on Glee last season dealt with the relationship between Rivera’s Santana and Heather Morris’ Brittany, and series co-creator and executive producer Brad Falchuck told Entertainment Weekly that Santana’s sexuality would be a major focus next season. If Rivera knows how Santana’s coming out is going to play out, she isn’t telling. “I’m excited to find out what happens,” she told us with a coy smile fans of the show are more than familiar with.

To say that Rivera almost charmed our pants off would be an understatement. (Heck, we even tweeted that we were considering switching teams for her!) And fans can rest assured that she is still ready to bring her A-game even as the tour winds down. While she wasn’t sure how many shows the cast had in Europe, she assured us, “I get on the plane and I do a good job.”
