Looks like Darren Criss will get to avoid some on-set awkwardness after all. Just four days after American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis tweeted that Darren Criss may be starring in an adaptation of Michael Hornburg’s Downers Grove that he’s writing, EW has learned that the Glee star is in fact not attached to the film.
It would have been a strange pairing — in April, Ellis took to his Twitter to spew insults about the Fox hit. One of his tweets: “I like the idea of ‘Glee’ but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I’ve stepped into a puddle of HIV?” Since then, prior to announcing that Criss might star in Downers Grove, Ellis praised the talent on the show on Twitter: “Whatever my problems with Glee have nothing to do with the incredibly talented cast itself. Have tastelessly bashed the show not the actors.”
Downers Grove, set for a 2012 release follows a high school plagued with a strange curse: One member of the senior class dies in a bizarre way each year. Hayden Panettiere, Nikki Reed, and Lucy Hale are attached to star.
