Glee Scoop: Jonathan Groff Returns as [Spoiler]!

Jonathan Groff is bringing Jesse St. James back to Glee later this season, but there’s a twist — and a juicy one at that: The student has now become the teacher!
At an event celebrating the show’s 300th musical performance on Wednesday, exec producer Ryan Murphy revealed that Groff will appear in multiple episodes as [SPOILER ALERT] the coach of New Directions’ rival choir Vocal Adrenaline. (He was formerly the group’s lead singer.) Murphy added that Glee Project runner-up Alex Newell would ” have many scenes” with Groff.

Groff last appeared on Glee in the spring when Jesse returned to make amends with his ex, Rachel (played by Groff’s real-life BFF Lea Michele). Michele immediately took to Twitter to welcome her pal back. “So happy to have my best friend in the world Jonathan Groff back on Glee this year,” she wrote. “Makes me the happiest girl in the world!” (With reporting by Vlada Gelman)

Jonathan Groff Returning to Glee? An Adele Mash-Up? Exclusive Scoop Straight From the Set!
Glee fans, are you sitting down? 'Cause we've got some Glee scoop that'll knock your Rachel Berry themed socks off.
Jonathan Groff, in all his Groff-iness, will be back on Glee. Take a moment to praise Ryan Murphy and Co., and then keep reading for exclusive details on The Groff's return, an amazing Adele mash-up (she approved it herself!) and more…

We were on set of Glee today for a big group musical number (No. 300!), and we chatted with Murphy and the cast about what's coming up for the so far stellar season three. And oh-so-casually we almost missed it, Ryan dropped that Jonathan Groff would be returning as the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline!
We did a little more snooping behind the scenes, and got this exclusive scoop: Groff will be doing four episodes, leading up to the big Nationals face off! Also, he'll have stories with Alex from The Glee Project.
We die.
Also on set today was new Glee castmember Damian McGinty, who was as adorable in person as he will surely be on the show. "First I want to thank everybody because they've been incredible," Damian says before admitting he was "really scared" on his first day. "They've been so nice and so welcoming and I fit in really well."
While he wouldn't say much about his character Rory Flanagan, Damian reveals, "He's having a hard time fitting it and getting bullied a lot. He's very young and very happy." You could tell how much the cast loved Damian as they laughed and clapped after almost everything he said. Didn't we tell you? Adorable.

Ryan & Co. also loved Glee Project runner-up Lindsay so much that she's coming back for another guest spot on the show! "Lindsay's coming back in episode eight," Ryan says. "She's sort of the Rachel of her school and she's so amazing. She will be competing against our groups."
As for Damian's co-winner Samuel, Ryan says, "Sam is probably going to come in around episode ten or eleven, probably after the Christmas break." Yes, you will have to wait at least another two months to see those beautiful dreads again.
Finally, Alex, whom Ryan calls "amazing," is "going to be the love child of Kurt and Mercedes and will turn to them for much advice." He will also share "many scenes" with Groff. A member of VA perhaps?
Other bits of scoop you might find interesting:
Someone we found very surprising was singing with the rival glee club started by Shelby Corcoran (Idina Menzel). Seriously, of all the people from New Directions we thought might switch over, this person was nowhere near our top guesses.
The rival group was in the choir room performing an Adele mashup of "Rumor Has It" and "Someone Like You", and it was so awesome it'll melt your ears off when you hear it. We'd go as far to say it was one of the best mashups ever. Adele herself recently listened to it and "loved it" and "approved it personally," according to Ryan.
A particular Adele song seemed to be dedicated from one person to another during a solo. Can't say much more about that. Except that a certain fanbase will freak.
Stand by. We have more scoop coming but couldn't help shout this Groff news from the rooftops, STAT. Check back in a bit for more scoop from the Glee set!
Are you as happy to hear Groff is returning to Glee as we are? Any guesses on which New Direction member is jumping ship?

'Glee': Jonathan Groff Returns, Another New Directions Defector and More Spoilers
During an event celebrating the show's 300th musical performance, Ryan Murphy teases what's ahead.
Jonathan Groff is back, Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy has a date with Barry Manilow and Pete Townshend is a fan. These were among the tidbits on offer as executives, cast and crew celebrated the show's 300th musical performance on Wednesday.

The Hollywood Reporter joined an estimated 200 journalists on the set of the Fox hit Wednesday in Hollywood to celebrate the milestone during filming of the 300th musical performance. Between questions about the show's influence on fashion and reflections on their favorite performances, the Murphy and company discussed The Glee Project winners' arrivals, the return of Rachel's ex, Jesse St. James (Groff), tribute episodes and more. Here are five things to look forward to this season.

1. Groff's Jesse St. James is returning. Murphy noted that the frequent guest star will return as the coach of New Directions rival Vocal Adrenaline, in which he'll share "many scenes" with The Glee Project runner-up Alex Newell. In honoring what the Glee co-creators said during Glee Project episodes, Murphy said Newell will appear as the "lovechild of Kurt and Mercedes" and turn to McKinley High pair for advice.
2. Glee Project update. Fellow Glee Project winners Samuel Larson will appear in either Episode 10 or 11 -- taking place after the show's Christmas break in January -- when school is back in session and a new semester returns. Glee Project's Lindsay Pearce will also return in Episode 8 as the "Rachel of her school," Murphy said, noting that she'd be competing against "our groups" -- perhaps indicating she'll face off with both McKinley glee clubs.

3. New edition. Speaking of rival glee clubs, filming for the 300th musical performance featured McKinley's other group, which in addition to Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Santana (Naya Rivera) has another big New Directions defector: Brittany (Heather Morris). How that all unfolds before the 300th performance airs during the Nov. 15 episode, however, is anyone's guess.
4. Tribute time. Murphy said there will be one tribute episode during Season 3, and that it's been in the works for two years. While there was no indicator just who or what that would look like -- he told THRin June that he was discussing making the episode a supersized one. Noting that that the executive producers always listen to the cast's suggestions on which songs they'd like to perform and how the envision their characters doing so, Murphy noted that he's received phone calls from Pete Townshend offering songs from his library and that he's having dinner soon with Barry Manilow. "It's always thrilling when household names call and love the show and say, 'Here's our catalog, pick what you like,' " Murphy noted.

5. Graduation. With graduation looming, Murphy reiterated that just because kids graduate doesn't mean that they can't be a part of Glee. "We haven't figured out what that is yet," he told reporters Wednesday, noting that writers were at work on the eighth script of the year and much still depended on what show's actors wanted to do. "We talk about that every day," Murphy said.
Glee returns Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. on Fox. The show's 300th musical performance will air during its Nov. 15 episode.
