'Glee' to Feature Toby Keith, Adele in New Episodes

Creator Ryan Murphy also reveals details about a tribute episode coming this spring

Good news for Toby Keith: The country star's "Red Solo Cup" recently made it into the writers' room at Glee, where the boozy ode to plasticware may soon get the shiny-happy show-choir treatment. That was one tidbit among several revealed Wednesday by the hit Fox series' creator, Ryan Murphy, at a Los Angeles press event marking Glee's 300th musical performance – a high-energy mash-up of "Rumour Has It" and "Someone Like You," both from Adele's smash 21, sung by Mercedes (Amber Riley), Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris). Look for it in the episode set to air November 15th.

After a run-through of the Adele track – overseen by veteran actor Eric Stoltz, who's directing the upcoming episode – the actors were joined for questions by Murphy and the rest of the show's cast, as well as execs from 20th Century Fox and Columbia Records, which releases albums and singles from Glee. Referring to the latter, Columbia chairman Rob Stringer said the label had sold over 35 million downloads from the show – more, Fox TV chief Dana Walden claimed, than any musical act in history.

Other news: Pete Townshend is a serious Glee fan, according to Murphy, who said it still blows his mind when rock stars call him offering him use of their catalogs. Asked for his favorite performance from the show so far, the creator picked "Don't Stop Believin'," from Glee's 2009 pilot. (Darren Criss, who plays Blaine, said later that he knew the show had broken out when "Don't Stop Believin'" became a Glee song as opposed to a Journey song.)

Murphy also advised viewers to expect the return of actor Jonathan Groff and to look forward to a lavish tribute episode this spring à la recent odes to Madonna, Fleetwood Mac and Lady Gaga. "When you can get Lady Gaga on the phone," he said of Season Two's "Born This Way" episode, "you go a little nuts."
