The actress has found fame playing Rachel Berry in American musical show Glee. The programme is set in a school, and has made Lea think about her own experiences when she was a student. She struggled with body image issues, explaining it was made particularly hard as so many of her class decided to go under the surgeon's knife.
"I was the only girl in my high school class not to get a nose job," she explained.
The 23-year-old tries to eat well and exercise to stay in shape, but admits the pressures of being famous can make her be tough on herself. She tries not to obsess about gaining a few pounds, and doesn't want to turn into someone who only talks about their diet.
"I love myself, the way I look, my body, but sometimes I can't help but feel insecure here. It plays with your head," she told the June issue of Women's Health magazine.
Lea keeps in shape by dancing, working out and regularly going hiking.
She is also a vegan, explaining she felt she had to give up all animal products after reading the book Skinny B***h, which advocates the diet. "It slapped me in the face," she said. "My idea of heaven used to be relaxing at home with a cheese plate and champagne."
